in search of Searching for the right engine for a simple fpsFPS

withWith some holiday time coming up iI thought it might be interesting to look to try and make a game thatsthat's been in my mind withfor a while now.

imI'm a professional programmprogrammer so iI have experience with most common languages (and I am not scared of picking up a new one if need beneeded) but iveI've never done any graphics or game work before.

basicallyBasically what imI'm after is an engine or tool settoolset that will allow me to create a simple fpsFPS (based around interaction with world objects, not physic based, just buttons) while hopefully avoiding as much graphics-y code as possible (dontdon't get me worngwrong, imI'm willing to learn it, iI just dontdon't want to spend my nights writing a lighting engine ;) ), so that iI can spend my time on logic and concept.

tl;dr ImI'm looking for suggestions (and if available tutorials) forof a simple engine to make a simple fpsFPS on

iI might be wrong bebut it seems that some thingsomething like UDK might be graphic over killgraphics overkill, imI'm happy for this to be ugly as hell.

asAs always, any help pointing me in the right direction would be amazing. thanksThanks!
