I'm working on a number of assets that will have blinking lights on them. I'm trying to determine how best to set these up for use in Unity.

For example, if I have a control panel with light-up buttons, and I want some of them to be blinking, or to be able to turn the light on and off as players interact with them, do I need to make those buttons be separate objects, so that the emissive texture can be toggled on and off?

Do the buttons have to have to have their own material/texture set, or just be their own objects?

I'm not looking for how to make things blink in Unity. I just want to know how I should set up the assets themselves.
