I would like to use some sort of a software to create 3D assets and put them in a binary file so that I could extract the necessary data and use it in OpenGL. I only need the vertex attributes and their normals to create the object.

While reading about the .3ds file, I found out that it doesn't store any normals and that you have to use "smoothing groups" to generate them.

How could I implement something in my code to generate the normals by myself?
