Possible Duplicate:
Where can I find free sprites and images?

I have developed a 2D engine which has a real lot of technology stuffed into it, but as I'm a programmer and a bad artist, I don't have any content to use for engine demos.

For example, if I need a set of 2D images used for making a forest level (trees, leaves, various plants, ground, sky, all in the same style)...

  • Where should I start searching? I have tried hours of googling already but all I can find are usually pretty crappy, often even unrelated sprite sheets

  • How much money is usually paid for something like the above example (forest level art), and in general 2D art? I'm very unexperienced in the topic of game content art and fear that I could get scammed on pretty bad

I'm not saying this is the only solution but a google "buy pixel art" gives as second answer devianart. Other links gives other sites where you can contact pixel artists and even sites where pixel artists search for work.

A good collection of completely free 2D and 3D art, all by the same artist with the same look and feel:

This article from Karnak Games is really helpful: http://karnakgames.com/wp/2011/01/how-to-outsource-art-for-your-game-using-freelancing-sites/
