What you are asking about is essentially OBB vs OBB Collision Detection

comment What is the proper, legal way to make a derivative video game?
This is OT, but it costs a lot of money to license an established franchise.

comment Should widgets be part of a scene in a 2D game?
Touching 3d objects is done via raycast into the scene at touch time.

I didn't implement say, text that can map to a 3d point. But if you wanted to, it would be a fairly simple projection (from 3-space, to a point on screen). You could then have the touchable track that point.

Widgets are movable. There is an interface where widgets can be dragged. They also slide in, (messages from the top), so most of the props in the base class get used.

I put screenfuls of Touchables in containers called Panels. (That's where this question came from). Multiple Panels can be overlaid on top of each other and they can each "transition in" and "transition out". Each menu screen is placed in a separate Panel. The ship dash controls and HUD are distinct panels as well.

comment How can I draw a perspective-correct quad?
Before you try anything else, make sure your texcoording is not wrong. Try a non-symmetrical image and see if it doesn't come out chopped in the middle.

comment What is the value of gameTime.ElapsedGameTime.TotalSeconds?
@MesutDarvishian If you are looking for that time interval that passed since the last frame, you really should just use 1./60. (fix your timestep)

comment What is the standard way to synchronize sound effects with sprite animations?
Yes, that would work. If you were using JSON, I'd suggest a datastructure like { 'images':'sprite-%02d.png', 'beginRange':1, 'endRange':32, 'sounds':{ 0 : 'startSpell.wav', 30 : 'impact.wav' } }. If your game is very early stage and compile time is still low, you can start by hardcoding the data structures in to see if it works.

comment Tangent on generated sphere
There are infinitely many tangent vectors in 3D, because actually the "tangent" at a 3-space point is a tangent-plane

@Jamornh You could also queue an event for "play explosion sound 30 frames from now", the easiest way to do this is using a callback function. I'll detail this in my answer.

Do you know what this is? Storing type information as bit field flags, instead of using concrete types. While this is insanely more efficient than RTTI, something still bothers me about this being considered an "OOP" approach by some. It isn't OOP, but if it works well, so what, maybe it's it's own paradigm.

comment How can I include vertex color information in .OBJ files?
@NickWiggill PLY is not necessarily a good choice -- maybe you haven't heard of it for good reason. It's much more complex than OBJ and it allows more flexibility than one would reasonably need to use for a static model. If you need additional flexibility, maybe you should use a more popular file format with well-established parsers, such as COLLADA

Oh, I see. They tacked on the per-vertex color as 3 floats after the v vertex position specification. Clever way to (hopefully) not break compatibility with existing OBJ parsers.
