I feel like my answer is being downvoted only by offended Java programmers. Refer to my comment. I don't hate Java, but it is insecure.

@Kylotan: I actually like Java. However, it's very unsafe inside a browser, and many influential organizations, such as Mozilla, are suggesting people to disable it. Mentioning it as an option and not warning about its lack of security measures is dangerous, and therefore this answer should be downvoted. Refer to this answer and its comments.

And I have already instructed him on not supporting Java because of the security implications. Otherwise, he simply asked for us to list various file formats and explain how to "support them", but I have explained that the support part is mostly the concern of the client.

-1 suggesting Java and IMO missing the point of the question.

comment How should IDs be assigned in an entity component system?
Not really that expensive at all. They're pretty standard for a lot of languages, and greatly optimized. Besides, you don't actually need to use strings (at least not in C++), as you could get the benefits of maps by using integer keys. The benefit of this is that it's easier to implement session-persistent IDs.

comment Execute a trigger after research is complete
@Anko, a question that excludes people who can answer it isn't really a good question. I gave the -1 because I thought he used a familiar language for scripting, yet didn't provide any details. I was wrong, so I removed the -1, end of story.

He's excluding a big part of the people who could help him from the potential answerers group. Unless there's no scripting in a known language involved here, my -1 stays. However, if it's only an editor without any programming, then I'll remove it, sorry.

The only advantage XML has over JSON is readability. And I'm pretty sure non-technical people could understand it. They're not idiots...

comment How to encourage players to level up multiple characters?
To get a powerful character of each class in, for example, WoW, you'd need several years of very active gameplay. And you'd still have a lot to experience from the game. Until I actually know the basics of your game, I'm going to conclude that you wont really have problems with that...

Well, I did, several times, but I still don't get where's the problem in that. You want the player to have multiple characters - of course they're gonna have one of each class (probably not of every class, but this depends on the number of classes you have in your game).

I don't understand the "class problem". Could you elaborate?

Specific or ambiguous, too localized or too vague, that's just a spectrum. It's bad if the question is on either end of it, and it'd be best if it were in the middle. Currently it's a bit too ambiguous if you ask me, but OK.
