If it consumes electricity, chances are good that I worked with it or at least know about it. SysAdmin and Programmer, worked with Basic and PHP as well as with Delphi and C#, my current favorite. I also do SharePoint for a living.

comment How do you design a record/replay system for a frequently changing game?
Just as a some more food for googling/researching: The way you do it is exactly how id's Quake Games recorded Demos, by capturing Server Packages. As far as I am aware they simply never resolved the compatibility issues.

No, it's not, but it is an extra effort :)

comment Are there any PS3 games whose source code is open source?
Sonys SDK is protected by an NDA by the way, so there may be problems releasing any meaningful source code.

comment How much is too much?
Not a real answer, but: The base question is really "When does it stop to be fun?" and that can mainly be answered with playtesting. Does any of the elements feel tacked on? Is any of the elements so overpowered that you should always use it? Or on the contrary, are any of the elements so underpowered that there is no reason ever to use it? (Important is 'feel': It does not matter how much Excel Data you have that confirms that the element is balanced and makes sense, if it 'feels' wrong then it has to be changed or removed)

comment Will multi-touch become an important/standard method of input for PC games in the future?
@coderanger Nothing is wrong with having a cursor if the game is suited for it already. Or maybe even if not, as I can see Multitouch even useful in FPS games which don't have a mouse pointer but a crosshair. I just don't believe that the hardware vendors are up for it and that we'll have the chicken/egg problem: No Games => No Hardware, No Hardware => No Reason to make games. I think RUSE was the only Triple-A Multitouch game. Maybe we see Multitouch on Apple machines as there is one standard Multitouch Device, but on Windows? I'm still sure it won't happen.

@coderanger very true, but then you have the disconnect between screen and input, which requires a mouse pointer. Also, Apple is the only mainstream company that 'got' multitouch right - says a lot about the quality of the industry and convinces me even more that mainstream multitouch won't happen.

@Adam no idea if these two are related or not.

I think that pretty much every MMO starts out with off-the-shelf technologies and then customized the hell out of it once they grow to a certain size and start to really specialize their tools. Stackless I/O in EVE Online is a fantastic example: eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=584

comment Tools for developing C64 Games
@Nate Part Nostalgia, but also an interesting challenge: With a machine that's limited (but whose limitations are well known), how far can one push it with the knowledge, tools and resources we have available today?
