comment rendering a dynamic sized rock
i should really do a benchmark to see if its better to split the terrain/rock geometry (there would be 2-3 additional texture lookups for the rock but only if the pixel in the bitmap is green - about 15% of the terrain). The only problem with your approach is that i can not generate a rock with a custom shape - but a simple solution for this is to create the shape with small (overleaping) rocks.

if i render the rock as a sprite i cannot dynamically adjust the size of the rock and would need a few different sprites of rocks so you dont notice the pattern. And since there are going to be a lot of rocks the performance will drop - i am currently rendering the whole terrain on one quad in a single call. I would like to use the bitmap for the whole terrain and magically blend different textures so the outcome will be as close as possible to the picture i attached.

it doesn't help since my game is purely 2d and i am looking for a clean solution without hard coding the path when you enter the loop (i will resort to this solution only if i can't find any better one). Thanks for the effort though!

comment Simulating a 3D body with a skeleton in iOS
The previous comment was full.. i think i understand the whole point of IK now (thanks to you! :)). I'll probably need a mixture of all mentioned scenarios. Thank you, you have been more than helpful (would give u more rep if i had it :P)!

If i would want to make the ragdolls arms and legs move freely (physics driven) and the body stay in the same place - i would make the body kinematic and arms and legs physics driven? What about scenario 3. when the ragdoll is falling through space and i want to grab its left arm (with the mouse) and make it hang by its arm - i would make the left arm kinematic (with IK) and other parts physics driven? Couldn't this be done with constraints (add a point 2 point constraint on the left arm)?
