comment How was the world game market segmented in 2011?
I am aware that the questions can be made much more refined and detailed, e.g. on social gamers there is this research infosolutionsgroup.com/pdfs/… but I am looking for an overview. Thanks.

So I'll search a way to put together "story engine" with "prototype environment". Hmmm.

I find your definition "a place to set up AI characters and play with the mechanics of the game" correct; the only problem with "Prototype Environment" is that at least in the case of a browser game, the same engine that makes the prototype run is then used to make the real game run.

Thank you all for your clarifications - I still haven't decided how to call our "thing", but I understood that "game engine" would be quite misleading.

Sorry the question was ambiguous . I've edited hoping to make it clearer. I mean a site managed by the game developer/publisher.

Yes - thank you a lot. I have been playing with it for a while, a bit perplex on the user interface and conception, but this is the kind of thing I am looking for.
