Handling player logoff and logon in a persistent world without breaking immersion +1. One could have the player's robot walk into the nearest shop/tavern/house/cellar/cave/outhouse and thus dissappear. They could similarly appear from the same. (Outhouses were used to spawn the main character in DeathSpank. Don't know if they fit your game though-..) |

Should I continue studying OpenGL or just switch to DirectX to give me a better chance of landing a job in the game industry? A generalized version of this question might yield some good answers at programmers.stackexchange.com ... |

downsampling algorithm @dotminic: On a modern PC? Not likely. There are much worse things you could do than just render 4 flat textures. :) |

downsampling algorithm @dotminic: IIUC, you basically want create a mip map chain, but stop once you reach the desired size. You might need to adjust the sample pattern & count if the downsample size isn't a power-of-two fraction of the large texture, or to reduce aliasing as void says. |

What are some ways of sorting through zero-experience programming candidates? +1. Prior non-professional experience is a must. If they haven't written any game (or similar project) at all when applying for a job, you'd better off waiting for someone who has. |

How do you prevent inflation in a virtual economy? Project Entropia does Developer-run auctions. But since they use real money the developers really want to take as much money out of the system as possible (i.e. as the players are willing to tolerate). |
