comment Simple game engines / development tools made with artists in mind?
This is very true, unfortunately the only programmers I know personally are the ones I work with, and my contract stipulates I can't ask them to join projects outside of the company! I also would feel bad about looking for a programmer with absolutely no money to offer them, and without being able to guarantee a minimum time investment on my own part. (Crunch time at the studio tends to take all my attention for a few weeks!)

This looks right up my alley, actually. :] It might be a little overpowered but the tutorials look really great.

Yeah, it wasn't that I found torquescript difficult, so much that learning it on my own was hard because the documentation is so bad.

@Iain Haha, exactly! And you are not the first to say that, and you will not be the last!

comment How do I find artists to work on my game?
I've yet to be hired on a game project where the demo was there and ready for me to play. Usually I'm contacted when the GDD is completed, or almost completed. If you're a programmer I can see how maybe you'd get your thoughts across better that way, but art assets can take a long time, especially if it's just one artist working part time since the gig is unpaid.

comment Style/technique to focus on for creating visual art assets efficiently
Digital painting will definitely give you value, since a lot of the skills you'd learn to do it you can apply to any other kind of art, but it will definitely have the highest learning curve. Vector is a little weirder to wrap your head around but I don't think it's that hard, really, just time consuming.

comment Programmers/Designers: working with artists
Good answer. A good artist will probably have a general concept about certain things, but we rarely know exactly how things work in the engine and you might need to lay it out pretty specifically. Remember we don't have the same background, so something that's obvious to you wouldn't necessarily occur to us, so more detail is better. Remember to always let an artist know if you need an asset to do multiple things! Ie, a character portrait that will be in game at 300 px, but that you also want to use at a marketing image at 2500 px.

comment What is “pixel art”?
@Joe Wreschnig When I say Lines I mean them as in line art. There are black pixels representing lines but they aren't conected and the image wouldn't read without the colour in them. Colour change isn't shading - shading is dependent on background and surrounding elements. Hence why I said the shading and lines are implied by changing the pixel colours. Since that's probably a confusing statement, though, I'll edit my post!
