comment Persistent Browser Based Game: To Captcha or not to Captcha?
Totally achievable, you just have to do some actual game design instead of coding random stuff. Quality costs.

comment Where can I find “magic numbers” for classic game play mechanics?
Well, if they could they would patent even π, just in case. Actually, I'm not really sure someone didn't do that.

Technically that's not even an answer, that's a comment.

You're missing the very basics, in that case. You might want to grab a generic tutorial on game programming, I guess any will do (and I'm certain there are many threads about that here).

comment Recreating retro/NES style physics with intentional imprecision
+1 not only this post is explained very well, but I also appreciate very much this precision in recreating the exact same effect of the original game! (I was very disappointed by the remake of Arcade Volleyball, which didn't play at all like the original)

comment What behaviors should go into making a “non-perfect” AI combatant?
While I agree with not using the randomization, I don't agree with "helping the player": that would be like cheating, only much worse because you would be lying to the player.

comment How do you prevent inflation in a virtual economy?
what are you talking about? It didn't work for me? It doesn't work because it just makes no sense, it just doesn't do that. Yes, buying skills costs more as you go on, and no, that does not prevent inflation just like it doesn't prevent global warming: they're not related by any means. I wish I could downvote more this nonsense and downvote the poor guy who upvoted too.

comment How do I avoid “too” lucky / unlucky streaks in random number generation?
@Joe: because it is more "really random", but still avoids too long streaks (which was what the OP wanted).

Even better, you could do half the numbers really random, and only half of them subject to this rule.

comment Graphical quality of open source vs. commercial games
This. Too often they forget that a game is, well, a game, and it should be fun to play. Most open source games badly need good game design, and they usually don't even realise that!

comment Are there many games involving the manipulation of water?
Yes, but it's definitely not a primary mechanic.
