Well, I don't have the method, and my libraries are updated. I think they might have changed it to setQueueBucket() but I already have that.

I understand what you mean but is there a jme-specific way to do this? I've tried adding the translucent spatial to the root node first, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

comment 2.5d with box2d - approaches from the top and bottom
tried it, ended up with flickering when approaching from the bottom and completely going through it when approaching from the top. I'm pretty tired but I'll think about it some more tomorrow.
