Costs/profit of/when starting an indie company Guess it depends on the skill level and mindset (where you live) for your statement @RoyT. |

Costs/profit of/when starting an indie company As mentioned already, most jobs pay less tan $7750 a year around here. There are few technical and no video game industry jobs. That is the reason I even thought of this idea, I was looking for solutions out of this situation. Also, having said that, there are no technical courses. |

Costs/profit of/when starting an indie company Yea, I live in Eastern Europe, however, as mentioned above, I've failed to find people who are even remotely knowledgeable/interested in creating a video game. And that was country-wide, not city-wide. Newspapers, and close to 10 internet sites at least remotely related to technology/games/etc.. That's why I've mentioned US/CA/UK in the first place. |

Costs/profit of/when starting an indie company Woah! Most jobs here pay $7750 or less A YEAR! Selling my apartment and buying a new, ~15m^2 would make me around $15.000-20.000. That's mighty costly for an INDIE game, ~$100.000... As for technical skills, explained in the comments above, unfortunately I'm too bad at programming due to not liking definitive rules and regulations for using defined syntax, algorithms, common practices, etc.. I'm more of a management and ideas guy, and I do it pretty good if we can include a game server which went above servers that been there for years in a month. Anyway, thanks for the answer. |

Costs/profit of/when starting an indie company @postgoodism I'm not looking to develop an AAA title, I'm looking at an indie game, for starters something small that would put some of my ideas out there and could go for a fiver. Then we can talk bigger indie projects. A small project can be developed in two or three months by few people, since I have higher standards, it would be an extra month or two. For starters, I'm looking to create a relatively small and simple game that I could sell for $5 and make enough money to start a bigger project while also putting my ideas out there. |

Costs/profit of/when starting an indie company I appreciate the replies. Here are my thoughts/experience: I can't get a job that pays more than I need to pay for food and taxes, so I can't save any. I've tried looking for people interested in this in my area with no success (except one wanna-be arrogant graphics designer, I create better graphics than him, and I'm really bad at it). Learning to code, well, half a year wasn't enough for me to be able to create a simple sidescroller. I've little interest in defined rules (hence defined statements and algorithms), and no interest makes you bad at what you do. |
