Someone posted an answer and it wouldn't let me comment on it. I hope I didn't accidentally delete it because it has disappeared.

When I comment out the code that adds the new child Limb to the Limb directly attached to the Body, the Limb directly attached to the body reappears. This is part of the reason why I think worldPosition() is the culprit because of the way it works, but I can't figure out why.

Well I commented out the lines that transform the Limbs and even the child Limb vanishes after that. Now there is no arm whatsoever.

The simplest case that works is when the Limbs don't have children. Suddenly when a child is added to a limb it breaks so that would be the simplest case that breaks.

comment How to rotate vertices of 2D shape using a transform matrix?
I understand now. I'll need to have a base list of vertices that is never modified, then have a copy list that is the result of transformations being applied to the base. The setPos method simply changes the x and y values of a position Vector2, it doesn't use any transformation matrices so no worries there. I read a lot about matrices so I know about combining matrices with multiplication but my actual programming experience with them is minimal. Thanks for the great reply!
