comment Why is there a lack of games for Linux?
@Jared I absolutely think that MOST of them will have issues with DRM; after all, Linux was formed out of the need for free (as in freedom) software, and I think a lot of its users know and respect the culture that has grown out of GNU/Linux and the free and open source software movement. I can't speak for Hemisphere Games, but I know that all the games in the Humble Indie Bundle were completely DRM-free, and I truly think it helped their cause, especially in the Linux world.

comment What functional language is most suited to create games with?
I don't believe 2D or 3D impacts a language choice, except by the variety of engines/libraries available for a language. I am personally interested in both 2D and 3D so I wasn't thinking of one or the other when writing this question. But overall, 2D and 3D games share a lot of common systems and data structures (e.g. audio, input, AI, program structure, game loop) and there are many 3D games which could be ported to 2D or vice versa. And yeah I haven't seen Monty Python so that's why I didn't understand it at all. :)

comment What are your favourite game-specific coding gems?
Thank you for mentioning the relative distance bit. I have seen way too many unnecessary square root operations, just as people using A* when they should be using something less exact.

By the way, do note that there's a more accurate "magic number" to use in the fast inverse square root function: 0x5f375a86 ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/… )

comment How to handle Multiple-accounts creation and cheating?
Remember that the really good cheaters will have proxies so that their multiple accounts are actually on different IPs. Don't make "same IP" a required criterion when looking for people cheating in this manner.

comment I love game development books but they're so expensive!
@Kylotan I feel the same, not to mention I find it really hard to read e-books from my computer screen, and my Kindle is only really good for front-to-back books whereas I like to flip around and sometimes make notes in my "serious" books.

comment What are good games to “earn your wings” with?
Excellent answer. Really disappointing end there. It'd be amazing if you could revisit this and tie it together somehow to give it a coherent ending.

comment Creating meaningful and engaging quests
And those "sensible" players are perfectly content with cookie cutter quests because that's what they are purposely boiling it down to by skipping the text.
