@Digital Architect You can disagree with my recommendation all you want, but that does not change the fact, that I have a completely valid idea. Saying I said one thing, when I didn't, does not help your crusade either. Your just nitpicking an idea because you can.

@Digital Architect Wow, did anyone read my post? I said "usually specific", for those who do not know English very well, that means "most of the time, but not always".

I think your throwing words into my text, I never said games were a special case, I just said that 98 percent of the time you wont need code from a general purpose lib to make a game. I am also not ignorant for suggesting writing your own code for the small parts instead of using a whole lib. It's a matter of preference.

comment Do UDP game clients/servers block for receive calls?
Ok, I'll look into the thread avenue then since I plan to do development for windows. I may not write anything faster than TCP at first, but it will be a learning experience non the less and eventually I will be able to write something better with my accrued knowledge. :)

That clears up many questions I had, thank you for that explanation. Do you think that handling read/write requests with select() is the way to go?

I know both protocols can be used effectively, but I am going for speed. Is it typical that network code be handled on a separate thread?
