comment moving from XNA to LWJGL
+1 agreed, for a better comparison LibGDX, Slick2D are more of a framework on top of LWJGL and would be more of a comparison to XNA

@Siddharth How can we help explain how to implement an effect (ie. visualisation) of something without knowing what you decided it looks like?

comment Set up indie game studio (UK) - how?
Yes it is mainly the Self-assesment tax form, the business rates is based on premises costs even if working from home. VAT see here for when to apply. Going to LTD is as my old boss used to say "A Good problem to have". There is alot more cost involved (I Don't know the details) and as its a whole new kettle of fish I would save that for when you need the information.

comment How do I manage multiplayer login?
if all levels are same for players the client can have a local copy so the servers need only to send position of where the user was last and the client renders the level at that position.

comment Derive a algorithm to match best position
@FarooqArshed Hi, What are the basis for regarding an algorithm a sucess. You wish to place units in positions based on an overall cost so you could simply choose random position and see what units can be put on that position based on cost and allowed position(s).

comment How to store data in a data-driven RPG
@ashes999 OK I see your point on size, although I feel the benefit of having 100's of tools that can be used, advantages in validation and as a lot of languages have support for XML can out wiegh the cost. plus if you are truly concerned with it you could remove all white space and change the XML tags to letters, just as you would with JSON

@ashes999 How do you define bloated? only requiring the header <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?> the rest is decided by the creator doesnt seem bloated to me

comment Storing items in external data files
would like to add here that if you create an interface and allow your data loaders implement it that way if you wish to change your format only have to create a new loader.

comment How can I efficiently form terrain from a large number of cubes in XNA?
As a suggestion, try loading/storing your map in chunks of 20-10 square. This will mean as the user moves around you load and unload areas and also only required to render (and store in memory) the structure of the chunk once.

comment How to use music in a simple game?
Could you expand your question explain what genre of game you are creating, the "mood" your trying to establish, I believe there is only two reason you add music to a game 1. immersion -You want the player to believe they are inside the game as it means they play longer. 2. Emotional Response - Your trying to invoke emotional responses to actions such as walking through dark forest and the music changes to really mysterious.. the emotional response your trying to achieve is essentially nervousness so when that mob jumps out at them they jump too.

comment Back to front drawing in an Unorginized array of tiles
well with the basic example i provided you could have a file per chunk and then name them chunk_x_y where x and y are your coords this would work with minecraft's approach to by saying region_0_0 contains 32x32 chunks (not all may be generated and present in the file but when it is written it is put here) from (0,0 to 32,32) or (-16,-16 to 16,16), so long as you parse the information in and out in a way you define it dont matter the data structure. I cant give you a possible data structure as I only know your using chunks.

@Trixmix There is a well known game that uses an expanded version of this very method Minecraft, and it has 17x17x255 per chunk and doesn't show any issues there.

comment Choosing the right game engine
LibGDX is a great engine very fast, masks the use of OpenGL really well yet doesnt get in your way if you want to play with it. Also has library for handling UI and a implementation of Box2D theres more but I havent got that far yet :)

comment Do I have too many colliders on my screen?
1. yes, 2. don't have so many colliders, Are you trying to achieve something in particular? Also note not a good measurement between desktop and phone (different systems), if you wish to benchmark start of with no colliders and add more till 2400 to compare the equiv speed differences.

One way to approach it is to tell the snake to head towards the area with the largest amount of space as seen here

Are the entities loaded from file or drawn by in java? Both cases would support Tinting however I unsure if tinting black with white would work :)
