"Good, he did not have enough imagination to become a mathematician". —Hilbert's response upon hearing that one of his students had dropped out to study poetry.

I'm a mathematician and statistician by trade. As well as a computer scientist that hacks things together for pleasure.

@drea, it's been an extremely long time since I played WoW, but my experiences of the battlegrounds are very similar to what I've seen in the new game mode, Dominion, in League of Legends. The idea is the same, capture and hold more of the 5 control points than your enemy, but on a smaller map. Once you get to a certain level of play the game becomes about strategy and playing as a cohesive unit, but before you reach that skill level where you are matched with players who think along those lines, you are still prone to getting your kills stolen.

@drea. Now that you mention that, it is a pretty bad idea. I still think the second part for team games though. It reduces the competition between players on the same team while making the focus more on competing with the other team. What do you think are some good metrics besides kills and damage done to measure individual contribution?

@MotiveKyle I'd test the waters if I were you. If you have an active community, shoot them the idea and see what their responses are. If they're receptive, you need a very small modification to your code to implement (rather remove) it. I wish there was a way to get the League of Legends to do this, but the gold you get per kill is a hindrance. I feel like this would drastically improve the team coherence of random teams in team games like MOBAs and FPS team modes. Damn, now I have to go design a MOBA!
