@RoyT. Thanks for the link! I did some searching 'round the stackexchange, but never tried the term simplify :)

Right now we do have a converter to import their model format and create a D3DXMesh. Due to the high level of detail of the model the polycount is enormous, but we expect Optimize or OptimizeInPlace to reduce the polycount (and when we use a quite large epsilon, reduce it drastically).

@RoyT. There's no change in triangle count before or after running optimize, which is very confusing to me since I thought that was the point of the Optimize methods...

@knight666 It's a simulation package, and the client needs to be able to import any of their models into it, regardless of polycount. So we can't process it offline, we just need to optimize as much as possible.

The capsule behaves exactly the same standing on any collision objects in the scene. I'll edit in a screenshot of some correct stacking behavior next to the capsule, for comparison.

In that case I'd suggest editing your question a bit to make it clear that you're asking about graphical effects and not 3d animation, just to avoid confusion.

Unfortunately your question isn't clear at all. What do you mean when you say animation? And then you talk about graphical effects and slowing down game-time? What exactly is it you're having trouble with?
