A game which eschews the use of graphics and instead relies on text to descriptively illustrate the world. Often involves parsing text input from the player to determine action.

Use this tag when your question is about a Text-based game you are developing. This tag does not apply to games which use ASCII text to illustrate the game world, such as in Rogue.

Text-based games have their own unique feature because nothing is represented graphically, and so it plays more like reading a book. As such, there is a larger focus on the colorful detail of words to describe the expansive world of the game and its eccentric denizens. Or not, if all you need to do is shoot into one of 20 rooms to hit a Wumpus.
