I'm trying to set up Nifty in Slick2D. I'm new to Slick2D and Nifty but I have some experience with Java.

Following the guide: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/nifty-gui/index.php?title=Nifty_Slick_Renderer_(Nifty_1.3.1)#Slick2D-Game_Implementations

I'm a little confused now. "NiftyGameState, NiftyBasicGameState Implementing the GameState or the BasicGameState, this classes are supposed to display only the Nifty-GUI over the entire state of the game. This can be useful in for GUI-only states such as a login state."

I'm working with GameStates, what is the difference between NiftyGameState and NiftyBasicGameState? When do I need to use what?

I figured I'd need NiftyBasicGameState for my Main Menu en Login screen. Then I have to do something with the following:

protected void initGameAndGUI(GameContainer container, StateBasedGame game) throws SlickException;
protected final void initNifty(GameContainer container, StateBasedGame game, ...);

What exactly do I need to do with those? I can't implement the first as it is final in NiftyBasicGameState. The second I can't find anything about. However, when I check my IDE, I have yet to implement the following method:

protected void prepareNifty(Nifty nifty, StateBasedGame game)

I can't find anything related to this method in the tutorial, what should it do?

The thing I want to achieve is to have the ability to create a UI containing overlays/buttons/icons/input fields etc.

Have you tried the hello world tutorial/example? –  Byte56 Aug 22 '13 at 14:53
That's of no use to me nor does it answer my questions. –  Anyone Aug 22 '13 at 18:14
