I think the problem is caused because of the material, but I have no idea how to solve this. It worked before using instancing, so the material is correct.

Here is my code:

InstancedEntity* ent = mInstanceManager->createInstancedEntity("Platform/Box");
mNode->attachObject(ent);//entity);
mNode->scale(BtOgre::Convert::toOgre(halfSize * 2));

And here is the material I am using:

material Platform/Box
{
   technique
   {
      pass
      {
         texture_unit
         {
            texture default-platform-box.png
         }
      }

   }
}

I also had some problems with instancing and I do believe it is not as trivial to make it work (as I remember, you had to bake the geometry or something) hence more initialization code was required. Did you check the Ogre samples on the subject? One major disadvantage is that you cannot use instancing for wide-spread area since the level of detail is computed w.r.t the scene node of the "original" instance. (culling might even occur if you're not aware of this). –  teodron Aug 8 '13 at 6:42
