Game Development Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for professional and independent game developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I´m currently developing games as a hobby and would like to increase my knowledge with the programming and the techniques for making an online game.

I´m very green in this area, but would like to understand the basic concepts and continue by making some lighter online game, like memory or similar.

So do you guys know any good sites or books that explains the basics?

While that is a good site full of information, it's not specific to online games. This answer would be better as a comment. –  Byte56 Jan 7 '13 at 18:21
