Which engines are the best for:

  • Best graphical effects?
  • Easiest to collaborate with?
  • Least learning curve?
  • Most lightweight?
  • Most platforms to build to?

Not all of the above - simply which ones are best for each category?

Source. No wait, Unreal. No wait, I mean Unity. Actually, I meant Irrlicht. Or did I mean Torque? – SomeWritesReserved Sep 6 '12 at 19:26

See the FAQ about what types of questions to ask here. Which technology to use questions are off topic. There's no correct answer to which is "best". – Byte56 Sep 6 '12 at 19:42
Similar question to: which is the best religion?.. you simply do not propose such a problem as it's too inconsistent and subjective. – teodron Sep 7 '12 at 9:10

Unreal. The rest are playing catch-up and get chosen for their lower price or better mobile phone support.

-1 False. You can't possibly answer which 3D engine is best. It depends on the person and their specific situation. Therefore this answer is not useful. – Byte56 Sep 6 '12 at 19:45

I think the question would have been valid if the OP asked "name at least one OR which engine" has these traits (and removing the grades of comparison from the traits). – teodron Sep 7 '12 at 9:12
Byte56, my answer is correct for the features the question asked about. – Jim Oct 22 '12 at 3:28
