I've heard that the book Real-Time Collision Detection is not for beginners and that I have to know algorithms, be strong in math and know some computational geometry.

Are there any recommended books that will give me the prerequisite knowledge I need to understand this book?

I've got a good background in linear algebra, calculus 1 & 2, a decent foundation in physics and data structures.

You should still get the book. sooner than later. There are lots of pseudo code examples in it that you can learn from and it in itself is a way to help learn the prerequisites. – Steve H Jul 22 '12 at 23:01
