I have played Radical Entertainment Prototype game and found its animation and collision systems really powerful. They contribute to make the game really funny to play. The freedom to walk on basically everything is really awesome. I have read somewhere that the animation system adapt to the dynamically changing environment. In your opinion/experience, what are the techniques needed to write such systems? I would like to gather some ideas about this.

Welcome to Gamedev.StackExchange. Unfortunately, How was game X made questions are off-topic, since no one knows exactly what was done to make the animation and collision systems in Prototype. – thedaian Mar 16 '12 at 18:06

Mmmm, i should rephrase my question, something like:"What techniques should be used to write an animation system able to adapt to a dynamically changing environment?" :P – lukelule Mar 16 '12 at 20:08
