Game Development Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for professional and independent game developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have always wanted to work in game design and have no idea how to narrow that down. I'm just looking for my calling and do not know were to start. I have decent math skills and a great amount of creative writing skill, but how do I narrow down what specific field of study I should specialize in. Thanks for your help!

This isn't really the right kind of question for this site, but here is some very short, to the point advice: carl.flax.ie/dothingstellpeople.html – Jason Morales Mar 2 '12 at 8:58
I'd also recommend checking out the extra curriculum forum and watching extra credits on Penny Arcade TV – Noctrine Mar 2 '12 at 13:32

Our gamedevelopment courses here in the Netherlands all have an introductory year in which a lot of aspects of gamedevelopment ar taught. After this year, one can choose to specialize in either programming or designing games.

Maybe search for a course like this?

Or you can try and start creating your own simple game. I think you'll quickly find out what you like most.
