I'm looking for stuff like game maker, game salad and rpg maker VX & XP. my only limit is that it has to work on windows xp. I have those but they just don't seam to work for me. btw if it helps i'm working on a 2D platformer. thanks a million guys.

Game Maker should work on XP, not sure why it isn't.

There aren't very many 'easy' game creation programs out there. If you don't mind doing some hard work I would recommend XNA. It's REAL programming, none of that drag&drop kiddies stuff. ;)
