What would be the ideal role balance in a small team of game developers, creating web based or mobile games?

The roles I can think: Project manager Someone to think up game concepts and gameplay Someone to create storylines, character bio's etc Programmer Designer / animator Audio specialist

Let's say my team can have a maximum size of 10 people, what would be the ideal balance? Off course there's only 1 project manager, the storylines and game concepts creation can be done by 1 person or the entire team.

How would I best divide the remaining 8 people over the roles of programmer, designer or audio specialist? It seems to me designing the game art and promo material is the most time consuming, so it would seem wise to put at least 5 people to work as designers, 2 as programmers and 1 as audio specialist. Am I right to assume designing art is the most time consuming? I only have experience as a programmer and just a little at designing.

Am I right to assume designing art is the most time consuming? Depends on your game; some games need more art than others. – jhocking Jan 27 '12 at 13:32
