I will be doing final year project this year, its a group of 6 members project. But in the group, only 1 member is experienced (mid level) in programming (ah yes, thats me).

The game should be an online game. I have some experience in following platform:

  • Flash
  • php+mysql
  • ios

The game is pretty much like those in facebook's games like: farmville, restaurant city (sorry I dont play facebook game, thus not sure if I spell correctly). Basically the concept is pretty simple, its like a mini-SIM game.

For the moment, here are my candidates:

  • iOS -> standard iphone game
  • HTML5 (but I've been googling around, have not seen similar game exists yet, thus I dont know if its a good choice)

I dont dare to pick up new languages as the project timeline is very tight, and I am the only programmer(if my team have more programmers, of course we will want to learn something new). For this project, I just want a safe but still want to impress everybody kind of game.

Thus I really need your advice. Most appreciated.

All of your options sound great, so just pick one. I'm not sure why you think internet strangers can tell you what platform is best for you. – jhocking Nov 4 '11 at 2:58
Just want to hear some of your(experts/professionals) thought :) – earthwalkerie Nov 4 '11 at 3:07
Choose the platform you have the most experience in, the one with the most support and tutorials, and then get started, because you are losing time right now! :) – DMan Nov 4 '11 at 3:31
^ There. That's our expert/professional thought. You're not going to get someone saying "you should definitely use platform X" - they're both good and you just need to pick the one that works for you. – doppelgreener Nov 4 '11 at 4:06
Keep in mind that this is a student project: why are you worried about targeting multiple platforms? With that in mind the HTML lag shouldn't be a problem if you demo it in Chrome or the likes. At the same time, who cares if flash is 'dying'? If you know it, use it. Figure out which would take the least time (Flash most probably) and use that. When you make a commercial venture give this it this much thought - but for now just start something and finish it; or you will miss your deadline. – Jonathan Dickinson Nov 4 '11 at 10:39

I would personally use flash because the flixel engine makes your life a lot easier, and it's the rapid prototyping language I know best. But yeah, as pretty much everyone said above, use the one you're best at. 5 months is a very short timescale even for a professional dev team - make sure you limit the scope of what you're trying to do, and consider finding an engine to do most of the work for you.
