Why only Drupal vs. Joomla? There are plenty of other suitable candidates out there. –  bummzack Sep 16 '11 at 6:38

Or off-topic. From the FAQ: "and it is not about... where free assets can be found" (although I hardly think excluding "free" makes this any more on topic). –  Jim Mar 13 '12 at 3:07

I'd suggest writing a custom, simple CMS using a framework such as Django. That gives you significantly more control and knowledge over the code.

Joomla! is suitable for your case. It has plenty of extensions that you can learn from examples and developer resources there.

Typical CMS like Joomla are usually geared towards web page content, not specific domain content. For a CMS that can be easily adapt to a specific domain, I suggest using WordPress with the Pods plugin.
