Is there a need in the community for affordable game-focused sound effect packs? I am considering putting together some effects specifically geared toward games and indie developers that desire to get a working prototype quickly off the ground. Is there a need for this, or is there another standard "go-to" spot for this kind of thing? I want to offer value to the community but wanted to assess the need first. If anyone has thoughts, insight, or personal opinions on this I would love to hear it!

Places that I currently get sound effects from: Free:
Paid: There is certainly a need for sound effects in the indie game community. Hopefully those sites will give you a sense of what is currently available, and how you might be able to fill that need. |

Here is my personal opinion... I think that there is a market for packs of reasonably priced, well chosen, quality-controlled sound effects. You can pick up random sounds from across the web, but then you end up with a bunch of sounds with different sampling rates, bit depths, volume levels, and overall quality that you then have to fix up yourself. Some care would be needed in choosing what makes up a pack. I'm not sure that "30 different laser sounds" would make a good pack, as I might just be looking for one or two, and probably would prefer to be able to buy just the ones I like. Packs based on themes or genres might work better, where I'm more likely to want to use most of the sounds. The kinds of packs that I guess that I would like to see would be along the lines of:
Of course you will never please everyone, and I may have to keep searching for that perfect plasma cannon sound that wasn't in the pack, but I think that packs that can just be dropped into a game to flesh out 90% of the required sounds in one go would make life easier for the small developer. |

Here is my own list of sound effect resources. Some are free, some commercial and some torrents. Good luck! |
