Where can I find free sprites and images?

I need some good 2d platformer sprites for a game i am making in C#. Can anyone suggest a good site or link? The sprites need to be free for commercial use and/or open source.

@Neil All tried. only got sprites claiming to be free but usually ripped off of some game or other. Mostly nintendo games. – ApprenticeHacker Jun 28 '11 at 14:32
